"Actually, this is the water shield of the Netherlands, but many people don’t know that because the tours in Muiderslot focus on the age of chivalry and the residence of the poet PC Hooft. But that will soon change. We’re making plans to reveal to our visitors the Netherlands’ Secret Weapon!"

Water Shield
Historically, Muiden is special for two reasons: It is the location of ‘Muiderslot’, the famous 13th Century castle of Count Floris V, and it is also where four of Holland’s ‘Water Defence Lines’ begin.
The Muiderslot ‘Water Shield’ is a pavilion specially designed to tell the story of Holland’s ‘Waterlinies’. Following a visit to the castle museum, visitors can make their way to the Water Shield to discover for themselves how water acted as both a friend and an enemy to the people of Muiden for over seven centuries. Old maps come to life through the magic of computer animation and an immersive installation gives visitors the feeling of being surrounded by the power of water.
